“jagged energy”

We usually can pinpoint areas of discontent in our life by what I like to call a feeling of “jagged energy.” Finding harmony in other areas of your life helps you to identify this jagged energy.

Behind the door of discontent lies a freedom never imagined. You need not stay faithful to your familiar foe of unease, but make friends with the liberating unknown.

We often stay in familiar discomfort because we’re too afraid to step into the unrevealed. Pay attention to the areas of your life where you feel discontent they are flashing red lights suggesting something is in need of repair there.

This may mean something you need to quit doing, quit eating, quit saying, quit reading, quit watching. It may even be someone or an entire group you need to walk away from (maybe even family. I know that’s hard for some to hear).

You can feel the jagged energy in any given action or interaction that doesn’t contribute to the person you truly want to be. You just need to be willing to listen to your deep inner knowing that is speaking through those tiny (or large) twinges of discontent.

I describe jagged energy as an underlying current of friction. It can be big or small. And that’s the tricky part. If you have not yet harmonized other areas of your life, it can be difficult to catch those smaller, more brief moments of abrasive energy. We often get so used to feeling discontent that it doesn’t feel much different from any other part of our day to day life. So I’d recommend starting with the bigger, more obvious things that announce themselves to you. (It’s important to remember discontent and jagged energy are different from the discomfort of stepping into the unknown to better yourself.)

Example:

Let’s say you know your eating habits aren’t contributing to the best version of yourself. (And in fact are most likely contributing to actual problems in your life.) When you go to eat fast food or buy the chemical filled pre made “treats” from the big chain grocery store, you may get that momentary insight of “I shouldn’t” but for whatever reason you gloss right over it.

You have to understand this moment of “I shouldn’t” or the feeling of dis-ease that you know is underlying the action. This is the jagged energy telling you that something isn’t right here. It is your responsibility to listen. Jagged energy can come in many forms and for many different things. PAY ATTENTION for these are the areas that are going to open doors of change. The domino effect of even one lifestyle change is huge.

If you want to harmonize your life and feel content in most or even all areas, you must begin with addressing those areas that conflict with your truest desires. Get good at identifying the moments of jagged energy and sit with it. Ask it why it’s present. Listen honestly, and with an unbiased mind, the clarity you find will help guide you in the right direction.
